OUR MISSION
PROTECT THE ECOSYSTEM OF LAKE BAIKAL
The main goal is to solve local environmental problems in the region, work with the population for harmonious interaction with the environment and stimulate research activities among the younger generation.
The main task is to highlight the priority ecoproblems of the region and launch relevant projects aimed at solving these problems.
In 2020, the center initiated the 'Oikhon' project for reforestation of the Baikal region.
NON-PROFIT ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION
Autonomous Non-Profit Organization
Buryat Environmental Center 'BAIKAL KEEPERS' was founded in 2020.
In 2021, the center initiated the Oikhon project for reforestation of the lake Baikal ecoregion.
To date, the center has conducted 4 forest planting seasons using the method of involving the population in the forest problem through planting trees with coordinates, where those who wish can take part remotely in reforestation and receive a unique certificate with the coordinates of the trees they helped plant.
Growing pine seedlings
We built an experimental greenhouse for growing seedlings (4x16m). For two seasons in a row, the grown seedlings did not show readiness for transplantation (the disease appeared). At the moment, the greenhouse project is frozen (we are detecting a disease).
In addition, we grow seedlings in the field (open method). However, during all 4 planting seasons, we purchased seedlings from third-party agents.
We are also developing equipment for processing seeds and cones. Today, we have developed a drying oven and drum to extract seeds from buds. A drum for separating seeds from lionfish is under development.
Tsydypov Lubsan Batoevich - head of the center
I graduated from Beijing Normal University with a degree in psychology and am engaged in research in the field of human interaction with nature.
The team consists of me, a consultant and my dog Une, who has been coming with me to the forest planting since her first days.
I am developing a method for involving the population in the forest problem by clarifying the coordinates of forest planting and the subsequent issuance of certificates on the blockchain. This method is suitable for local environmental organizations to involve the local population in the reforestation process.
I plant, draw and produce collections myself.
